Pride Tour - Queer city tour through Basel

Written and led by Gender Studies students from the University of Basel.

Queer City Tour Basel

Discover Basel's colorful and diverse history and present of the LGBTQIA+ community. What does LGBTQIA+ mean and where is the community at home in Basel? Genderbox organizes Pride tours, led by Gender Studies students and community experts. We will meet in the former homosexual “milieu” and learn why relevant clubs, bars, but also bookshops and libraries were life-saving meeting places at a time when police raids were the order of the day. We will hear why a drag ball at Christmas conveyed a sense of belonging and family of choice for many in the community. We will also visit the former lesbian meeting place in the “Frauenzimmer” where the first national television program about lesbians in Switzerland was broadcast. On this tour we will introduce you to pioneers of the LGBTIQ+ community with a focus on fashion, music, scene and club culture and political movements.
